KACC DRAGONS
Dragon Boating
KACC Dragons 5.png

Open to men and women ages 18+

With the backdrop of Kilkenny castle KACC Dragons paddle for fun, fitness and the firm desire to perfect our stroke! We  train at 9am on Sundays and 8.30am on Tuesdays, all year round. As the summer progresses there are more opportunities to paddle in the evenings and we can often be seen on the Nore three or four times a week.

During the spring/summer season we travel to regattas around the country to race and meet up with the many dragon boating friends we have made over the years. We typically compete in races that are 200m, 500m, 1km or 2km long.

Dragon boating is a worldwide sport and we’ve also taken opportunities to train and compete overseas. Members regularly travel in groups to train in Spain with Heat International. In 2023, 22 members of the crew competed in Venice and took part in the 35km Vogalonga event that saw us paddling through Venice’s central canals and out to the islands. In 2024 the destination was Barcelona's International Dragon Boat Festival! In 2026 we have plans to compete in Prague.

Many of our crew take full advantage of their KACC membership and expand their paddling skills to include kayaking, canoes and SUP boarding.

SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT

All paddlers must be able to swim at minimum of 50m with a buoyancy aid. Buoyancy aids are worn at all times on the water. We take part in annual safety training and abide by the standards and rules laid out by the Irish Dragon Boat Association and Canoeing Ireland.
